Two climbers from Québec were rescued today up on Mt. Rainier near Camp Muir (click here for information posted on KING 5's website). We went up the same route last summer as part of Pentaquest 2009 under ideal conditions. These climbers apparently went up in a whiteout with howling winds and wandered into a crevasse.Without knowing all of the details, I'll reserve passing judgment. It's easy to criticize the mistakes of others. But when you're in the moment, a tactical error might seem like the right call.
The good news is that this time everyone is returning home safe - all too often Rainier can be an unforgiving beast.
